From the President
Dear Members and Friends of the cdcbaa,
As I take on the role of Co-President for one more year, I am honored to lead our organization so we can provide another year of enlightening programs and resources for our bankruptcy community! So far this year, among other things, the board has coordinated MCLE programs on January 28th, the 17th Annual Review of 9th Circuit Decisions featuring speakers Hon. Laura Taylor, Hon. Sandra Klein, and M. Jonathan Hayes, and on February 25th, Administering Assets with Chapter 7 Trustees Wesley Avery, Nancy Zamora, and Larry Simons.
We have also formally launched our Mentorship Program to connect members of our organization, led by committee members Daniela Romero, Alisa Admiral, and David Jacob. I am thrilled about this new offering, as it provides an additional valuable resource to our members. If you are interested in serving as a Mentor or being a Mentee, please contact any of the committee members.
Reflecting on 2022, we ended the year with a memorable evening at the 2022 Calvin Ashland Awards Dinner on November 10th honoring M. Jonathan Hayes as the 2022 Calvin Ashland Attorney of the Year and Akihito Koyama as the 2022Thomas B. Donovan Award recipient.
There are some thank you’s I want to make. First, to the executive and board chairs who all willingly volunteered to remain in their positions for this upcoming year, thank you for your time and compassion. I also want to thank Roksana Moradi-Brovia for your tireless efforts in planning program topics and coordinating panelists year after year. And finally, I want to thank my Co-President Keith Higginbotham, we would never have had the successful year that we have had without your wisdom and support.
Please join us for our upcoming program on March 18th *starting at 10am*, so you can meet the Bankruptcy Court Clerk’s Office and Judges’ Clerks. This is going to be a very informative presentation to get an idea of what happens behind the scenes.
Here’s to another great year
Co-President Lucy Mavyan
